James George Frazer
James George Frazer (Glasgow, 1 de enero de 1854 - Cambridge, 7 de mayo de 1941). Antropólogo escocés. Sus obras comprenden Totemism (1887), en la que se basó el famoso estudio de Sigmund Freud titulado Totem y tabú; Totemism and Exogamy (1910), The Scapegoat (1913), The Fear of the Dead in Primitive Religion (El temor a la muerte en la primitiva religión, 3 vols., 1933-36) y Antología Antropológica (4 vols., 1938-39). Su obra principal fue The Golden Bough (La rama dorada), publicada en dos volúmenes en 1890 y que se incrementó hasta alcanzar doce volúmenes, que su propio autor redujo a uno, como síntesis, en 1922. Cuestionada y alabada, esta obra es un hito de los estudios sobre magia y religión e influyó en las obras de importantes escritores, como T. S. Eliot, W. B. Yeats y James Joyce.
